TYPE OF SERVICE
NICKELSHIELD is particularly
valuable where iron contamination, wear, and neutral or alkaline corrosion
is a problem. The sections dealing with the properties and applications
only give an indication as to the value of NICKELSHIELD in industrial

MASKING
Because of the strong
cleaning chemicals and high temperatures involved in NICKELSHIELD
plating, masking of parts where no plating is desired is not always
practical. The extreme uniformity of plating makes it possible and most
often less costly to allow for the plating all over when machining the
parts.
CLEANING
As in all types of
plating, the better the quality of the base metal, the better the quality
of plating. All parts must be absolutely clean prior to plating. The
cleaning solutions used will remove light grease films, light dirt,
and oxides. To remove weld scale or splatter, paint, heavy grease or
dirt, heavy rust, or mill scale, it is necessary to use procedures which
are not standard. Parts which require this extra work to clean will
consequently cost more to plate. Quotations usually specify that all
parts be cleanable by ordinary methods and that we have the option of
rejection of any part which we feel cannot be cleaned satisfactorily.
